Cuyuna Lakes State Trail

Mixed Bag: Easy short paved trail; difficult mountain trails

July, 2018 by timbee205

I started on the northeast side of Crosby on the paved trail. This was flat and easy to do, mostly shaded with trees & bushes. The west end trailhead was nothing but a paved parking lot--no biff, no water, no shade, no signs. From this point you can supposedly get on "Easy Street" the beginner mountain trail but there were no signs or indications, so I just turned around and headed to the main trailhead.

This is a huge, amazing trail head for the mountain trails--lots of people and activity. But finding a trail suitable for novices like me was impossible. So I gave it a shot on a more difficult mountain trail without the right equipment or skills. I made a short loop but it wasn't much fun. There needs to be a place for novices and kids with easy access to practice on and acquire some basic skills.

This whole layout is really impressive but there needs to be updated maps and signs.

Brown's Creek State Trail

A Great Addition to the northern metro trails in the Twin Cities

July, 2018 by mikaspaso

We've ridden this trail at least once a year and it's a local favorite. It connects with the Gateway Trail and follows the creek down to Stillwater. Its popular with the locals and well as tourists. There's no parking in the western start of the trail, so I would recommend parking at the Pine Point trailhead (tons of parking, water and bathrooms). There is a tiny parking lot off of Highway 96, but it's almost always full on weekends, even early in the morning.

If you start at the western trailhead off of the Gateway, the trip to Stillwater is downhill, but you really don't notice it too much, even the trip back is pleasant. There are a few places where you traverse a local golf course but the majority of the trail is through some lovely wooded areas. I've almost ridden off into the trees because I've been gawking at the beautiful scenery!

You can continue to explore Stillwater at the trail's end, or head north to William O'Brien State Park and the lovely river towns of Marine on St. Croix and Copas. It's a great little trail!

Mississippi River Regional Trail (Dakota County)

Fun Trail Ride - Some Ups and Downs

July, 2018 by ldsbjensen

We started at the Petro Truck stop just off of Hwy 52 and 117th Street. Upon finishing our ride, we determined that there is a nice trailhead, appears to be just north of this truck stop. We used the truck stop and headed out on the trail just out of the south end of the parking lot.

Overall the trail was in great condition and well marked. The only spot that we did not see any marking was at the intersection of Cahill and Concord Boulevard. We continued north and went up into the neighborhoods of Inver Grove Heights - also a nice continuance of the trail. One of the riders in our party did head "east" along Concord down to the Swing Bridge Park. This was also a great section of trail, challenge is that you are going down hill to the river, so the return means that is UP hill from the river. Manageable but a good climb.

I will be back again to ride further into St Paul via the trail!

Goodhue Pioneer State Trail

Excellent trail - along Hay Creek

July, 2018 by reillyed

If you have bikes on car rack - park your car at the Beer Stube Restaurant and bowling alley in Red Wing. Unload in parking lot and across the street you will find start of a Red Wing city asphalt trail that will take you to the Goodhue Trail. (Added bonus is that there will be a cold beer waiting for you upon your return at the Stube). The Goodhue state park trail meanders on asphalt path along hay creek. Lots of birds - watch during summmer for nesting Rose Breasted Groossbeak and Baltimore Oriole - among others. Trail abuts horse trail - lots of horse riders. Lots of bridges over creek to cross. Trails ends at campground - nice saloon there to whet your whistle or grab a bite to eat. Find it hard that anyone could give this trail less than five stars. Round trip mileage was 13 miles for the route above.

Cedar Lake LRT Regional Trail

Another Poorly Maintained Trail

July, 2018 by breebertz

Surprised by the rave reviews on here. I rode this trail recently for the first time in several years. Like many of our Twin Cities trail, it is amazing in potential and horrible in reality. These trails are worthless if not maintained correctly. I will not ride this trail again with my road bike until it is patched or resurfaced. Probably great for mountain bikes, but a little tender loving care would make it amazing for everyone.

Douglas State Trail

Heaven On Earth

July, 2018 by vlisabet1010

I began riding the Douglas Trail when my son, Shem, was 2 years. He's now 40!. Over the years, we must have ridden it, literally, thousands of miles. We liked beginning our rides from Pine Island. Shem and I also enjoyed "night riding" under the moonlight. The Douglas Trail is Heaven On Earth to me !!!!

Willard Munger State Trail (Hinckley-Duluth)

Oh happy day!

July, 2018 by aparrott58

Rode from Carlton to duluth. All downhill. Beautiful views, great scenery, lots of mature trees, all paved. Just a lot of fun. Would do the trail again. Only downfall? A few more signs, especially when nearing the big town...no real trailhead and no sign stating you were at the end of the trail.

Willard Munger State Trail (Hinckley-Duluth)

at Jay Cooke park

June, 2018 by dadandthegang

I parked at Cooke park HQ and rode the spur to the main trail. I went south about 4 miles to where the trail closed then north of the spur about 6 miles (21 round trip). Pavement is mostly good with some sections freshly paved and most of it having some patches. Only a few sections had rough spots, but still very rideable. Being an old railroad track the slopes are gentle.

Gitchi-Gami State Trail

Near Gooseberry

June, 2018 by dadandthegang

I was able to do about a 5 mile section at south e d before cold rain came in. Trail Is challenging with plenty of hills. It was a pleasure to ride. Here and there roots and plants are poking through the asphalt, but it does not take the joy from the ride.

Lake Phalen Trail

Nice, Smooth Trail Ride

June, 2018 by jackierlandin

This was a very nice trail to bike on. It’s separated most of the way from the walking trail which is nice as I found a lot of people running/walking which would have crowded the trail if it was combined all the way around. There are plenty of different parking places located around the lake for easy access to the trail. Shading around the lake so you aren’t always riding in the sun.
