Rush Creek Regional Trail Description

Rush Creek Regional Trail stretches 9.6 miles across forests and farmland, offering a convenient connection to some of Hennepin County’s most interesting parks. The path is smooth, wide and mostly flat along its length, with plenty of signage, making it welcoming for a variety of users.  Early morning rides are best if you’re hoping to encounter wildlife. The trail begins at Coon Rapids Park, along the western banks of the Mississippi, and heads west. The paved pathway cuts through residential neighborhoods before dipping to cross underneath Douglas Drive (County Road 102). Tree plantings shield the trail, giving it a remote feel even in the middle of suburban Brooklyn Park. On the other side of the roadway, the landscape then morphs into farmland which continues after it traverses Highway 169 (US 169), until it hits Jefferson Highway, after which it’s a brief journey back through residential developments. The trail terminates at the Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove. Here the trail links to other trails including the Medicine Lake Regional Trail.

Parking and Trail Access

The trail can be accessed at numerous points along its route via neighborhood trail connections. Parking and other amenities including picnic areas, restrooms and drinking fountains are available at the respective trailheads at Coon Rapids Dam Park (10360 W. River Rd., Brooklyn Park)  and Elm Creek Park Reserve (12400 James Deane Parkway, Maple Grove).

Rush Creek Regional Trail Reviews

Nice trail with so many road crossings

Nicely maintained trail, but way too many crossings for a decent pace bike ride.

Smooth trail, gradual hills here and there. I pushed my kid in the jogging stroller while roller blading. Great scenery and shaded areas, saw a few deer, stopped at the playground on the way back to the parking lot.

Nice trail

Mostly flat and asphalt is in great condition! Several road crossings but mainly residential streets. Easy access to Elm Creek Park Reserve, with even more trails. Coon Rapids Dam at the east end is a nice trailhead or turnaround.
