Nokomis-Minnesota River Regional Trail contributes 7 miles to the Twin Cities’ extensive network of regional trails. The paved path is 10-foot wide, providing room for a variety of trail users including bicyclists, joggers, walkers and inline skaters. It’s a north-south trail across three communities: Minneapolis, Richfield and Bloomington.
As it travels south, it goes through residential neighborhoods, into parks and near retail and entertainment destinations including the famous Mall of America in Bloomington, and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. It also links with other trails in the system: at its north end it joins the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, a 50-mile network of trails. In Richfield, it connects to the Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail. At its south end, the trail connects with the Minnesota River Greenway. While most crossings are at grade, there are two bridges, one over State Route 62 and the other spanning I-494.
There are several parking options along this trail, including at Taft Park (6101 1/2 Bloomington Ave S), near 6900 Cedar Ave S, Washington Park (9217 17th Ave S), and at the southern end of the trail, the Cedar Nichols Trailhead (3711 Nicols Rd).
See TrailLink Map for more information.
The lake trail connects to the entire Minneapolis biker trails, including Minnehaha Falls and the River Road. Being from the South Metro, I park in the south side of the lake. Easy access to Cedar as well as clean restroom facilities. Avenue. Plus, Nokomis has a beach/Conession stand,
The new sections through Richfield at the northern end of the trail are nicely paved and good riding. The middle section is a bit wonky, especially the jog around 494. The end is super fun, bombing an excellent downhill to finish at the Old Cedar Bridge. Bring mud tires if you want to continue along the river bottoms.
While a nice, casual and bikable trail, it is all along streets. Sometimes busy crossroads. The end - down, down, down to the river - is awesome.
