The Carey Lake Bike Path provides a safe non-driving alternative route from Hibbing to the Carey Lake Recreation Area. The asphalt path begins at the Hibbing Community College (although you can always park at Vic Powers Park and start from there) and then heads east, winding alongside Dupont Road, until Carey Lake. The Carey Lake Recreation Area is a 1100-acre natural area with the lake surrounded by jack pine woods and bogs with lowland coniferous forests. The lake has a sandy swimming beach and a fishing pier. There are also miles of hiking, mountain-biking and cross country skiing trails around the park.
Hibbing is a mining community that acts as a trailhead for the Mesabi Trail, which travels 135 miles across Minnesota's picturesque Iron Range.
Parking is available at the western end of the trail at Vic Powers Park (25 East 25th Street, Hibbing), and on the eastern end at Cary Lake Recreation Area.
