Beaver Islands Trail

Except for by the university, the view goes from dense scrub brush and scraggly flood plain trees, to wooded suburbs, finishing up by skirting a nondescript busy highway. Don't bother if you aren't a local.

Beautiful challenge

September, 2022 by p9q79b2gzm

If you start from the Stillwater end, this is the perfect challenging ride. The grade is all uphill on the way to the Gateway. My husband pulled the two littles in the Burley, and I kept pace with our six year old. There is a park at the 3 mile point, which is great for a tired kiddo. Once you hit the Gateway, when everyone is tired, it’s really nice to have the return ride all downhill. The bluffs and ravines are beautiful. The sound of running water accompanies you through the first part of the ride, if you don’t have head phones. I am looking forward to doing it at least once more this year, with the fall leaves and the Burkey on my tail this time.

Rice Creek North Regional Trail

nice trail

Really enjoy this trail, but it needs clear signage when in the area between the dog park and county road I.

Dakota Rail Regional Trail

Rode start to finish on our tandem. It is all asphalt, no gravel at all. Great burgers and fries at Longhorns in Lester Prairie. They let us fill our Camelback with ice and water before we left. Highly recommend!

Medicine Lake Trail

I give this 4 stars bc of the sections of the trail that are super bumpy due to tree root issues on the blacktopped surface. We loved the ride-hilly, winding, flat and forested with lots of canopy. Btw there is trail head parking at East Medicine Lake Park. That’s where we parked and there’s a nice bathroom and play area. Would recommend! Just wear your extra padded shorts for the bumpy sections!

Willard Munger State Trail (Gateway State Trail)

Mostly Level

August, 2022 by grimsbee5

For me a 68 year old who just had a total knee in Jan of 22 this was a nice level trail for me. I started where the trail joins another to Stillwater. I rode up to Pine Point Regional Park where the trail ends or begins I suppose if you start there. I kind of made it a round trip riding down Noble Ave to catch the trail to Stillwater just past Hwy 96. No easy way down to that trail as you have to walk bike down under the bridge and very steep embankment to the trail. It’s then pretty much down hill to Stillwater. Low grade hill though. 20 miles round trip. Not bad.
