Running for over two miles over gentle hills, highway exit ramps, and creeks and fields, the 48th Street Bike Path is an asphalt sidepath trail that provides a route for cyclists and pedestrians in this far-flung section of southern Rochester. The eastern half of the trail offers little in the way of scenery, traversing Highway 63 and the accompanying gas stations and businesses, but the western half offers more peaceful, removed surroundings.
The trail crosses over Willow Creek just past the highway, where the Southern Woods Trail leads south through the open space park of the same name. Heading further west, the trail passes along the edge of the Willow Creek Golf Course and through the outskirts of adjoining residential neighborhoods, before coming to an end where the suburban development gives way to woods and fields at Scenic View Drive SW. Trail users can continue their journey from the eastern half along the St. Bridgets Bike Path, which connects to additional pathways for those looking for some extra mileage and recreation.
Parking is available nearby at Southern Woods Park, located at 4982 11th Avenue SW. Take the Southern Woods Trail north from the park to reach the 48th Street Bike Path.
