This unassuming recreational path in Goodrich, Genesee County is actually a part of the Iron Belle Trail, Michigan's state-spanning multiuse trail system. The Gale Road Trail starts near Perry Road and heads south along Gale Road, then east towards downtown Goodrich, paralleling Hegel Road. (The trail itself stops short of downtown but users can connect to the center of the village via sidewalks which pick up where the trail leaves off). The asphalt pathway is not shaded, but there is plenty of green nearby, whether it's the wide lawns of the adjacent homes, the sports fields of Goodrich High School, or the trees of Atlas County Park, across the road from the trail.
Parking can be found at Atlas County Park (9139 Hegel Road, Goodrich, 48438). However, note that the trail is across the street from the park and there is no marked crossing at this point.
From I-75, Exit Holly Road and turn South. Then turn East onto East Baldwin Road. East Baldwin Road will curve to the North and become Gale Road. Turn East onto Hegel Road next to Goodrich High School; you will see the trail at this point. Atlas County Park will be on the north Side of the road.
From SR-15 in Downtown Goodrich, turn west onto Hegel Road. After passing the Goodrich Country Club, you will see the trail on the south side of the road. The Atlas County Park entrance will be just before Goodrich High School.
