A short paved trail that runs from the city of Flint's Kellar Park to the newly refurbished Chevy Commons park along the Flint River, the Kettering Gateway Trail provides a useful link in the city's growing network of trails, as well as a nice resource for nearby residents looking to get some exercise or visit one of their local parks. The trail was named for its important role in providing access from neighborhoods south of the river to Kettering University, which for years operated as the General Motors Institute, before becoming a separate institution with a specialty in engineering. In addition to providing access to the school, the trail also connects with the Genesee Valley Trail and the Chevy Commons Trail at Chevy Commons, a former industrial site that has been extensively remediated and upgraded into a green space along the river.
Parking is available at the north end of the trail at Chevy Commons via the lot off of S Chevrolet Avenue. Parking is also available at the south end of the trail off of Hammerberg Road, in the lot next to the Swartz Creek Golf Course.
Nice trail through the campus of Kettering Unversity
