The Great Highway Bike Path parallels its namesake road on the western edge of San Francisco, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean throughout. The trail provides direct access to the San Francisco Zoo at its southern end and Golden Gate Park at its northern end.
Periodic crosswalks allow you to reach Ocean Beach and the frigid Pacific Ocean. Alternatively, pick up the Golden Gate Park Bike Path at Lincoln Way to pass through the famous park and access its various landmarks.
Parking for the Great Highway Bike Path is available in the large parking lots for Ocean Beach at the trail's northern end.
Only rode a short section at Golden Gate Park. Trail is rough. Is wide but nothing great about it. Better to ride in Golden Gate Park.
This bike path has been a part of my daily rides for many years. After work I'd take a long detour to get back home. Sunsets here are always beautiful. You can't beat the unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean while riding on a flat paved path dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists. No vehicle traffic to worry about. One can truly just enjoy the views.
