This 4.5-mile paved trail encircles Lake Merced in southwestern San Francisco. The western leg of the loop is also referred to as the Lake Merced Measured Mile and is part of a larger, regional effort called Bay Area Ridge Trail. Along the route you’ll have views of this picturesque freshwater lake, which is popular with boaters and fisherman, and pass through Harding Park.
Parking and restrooms are available at the southern end of the loop off John Muir Drive at the Lake Merced Bridge. On the north end of the loop, parking is available at Sunset Boulevard and also at the lake's boathouse.
Been riding this loop for many years as part of my route from Ocean Beach. It's an easy ride around the lake. Path can get crowded as it is shared with pedestrians and street traffic (on sections of the loop) is close by causing noise. Still a nice ride around a lake within the city.
