Park at Towne East Square mall, Cessna Park (Mt. Vernon St. west of Woodlawn St.), at the end of Wallace Street and off Fees Street west of Oliver Street.
As a bicycle path, this trail is a good one to use mid-day when your time is limited. Goes through a couple of nice parks and is fairly successful in making you forget you are in the middle of the city. Some areas could use some cleaning and some asphalt sections have cracks caused by root damage which makes for a bumpy ride. For the weekend, take the time to go to the Arkansas River trail.
The path is clean and offers a variety of views - residential, parks, along the creek with wildlife. However, I'm pretty sure it's closer to 5 or 5.5 miles than 6.5. Also, I hate walking on concrete. Personal preference.
Rode this on 8/14/11. Construction finished.
Very good path, now connected with new path at south end over to the I-135 path.
From the north end at Douglass:
A) ride through Rockwood development and take sidewalks of Central east to 127th and head north on K-96 path for a 30+ mile loop with the 135 path.
or B) ride through eastborough and hit 2nd street west to 135 path for a 14.5 ish mile ride.
Noticed yesterday there was a closure just north of Harry. You can bike in and out of a parking lot just north of the closure, but should walk up or down the bank south of the closure to reduce damage to grass. Easily done (unless very wet, I suppose). Doesn't seem likely to be closed too long.
You can avoid the closure (from the northbound perspective) by going east on new path at Pawnee to Webb, then north on sidewalk path to douglass, where you lose the sidewalk, so take douglass west and cut north through the neighborhood up to central.
This trail does not have any events yet.
