A resaca is a type of channel that through flooding and sediment deposits, was cut off from the Rio Grande. These channels are unique to the southern part of Cameron County, and are recognized for both water management and recreation value.
In San Benito, an asphalt trail sits on both sides of the landscaped green verge of a section of the Resaca de los Fresnos. The park space is populated with amenities including fitness stations, picnic tables and shelters, swing sets, outdoor grills, basketball courts and more. It serves as the site of many local events from races to music festivals.
The Heavin Resaca Trail is also part of the Caracara Trails network in Lower Rio Grande Valley.
There's parking on Diaz Street at the Combes Street intersection.
