Overview
The Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Regional Hike and Bike Trail connects 3 major areas: the City of McAllen, the City of Pharr, and the City of San Juan. A majority of the 3.5-mile route follows canals along wide and flat asphalt paths throughout this metro area.
About the Route
At the trail's northwestern endpoint located along South Antonio Ave., the trail heads west along both sides of the canal. Both sides of the trail loop around and tunnels underneath intersecting roads keep the trail continuing along. Short spurs allow for connection and trail access along each junction.
The trail and the canal head west and then south along a wide flat plain in between suburban backyards. As the trail heads past E Moore Rd., trail users must head south under the road via. a tunnel and then loop north and then south again back onto the main trail.
The southernmost section of the trail heads west alongside a wider canal, and this time along only one side of the route before reaching its southernmost endpoint at West Hall Acres.
The Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Regional Hike and Bike Trail runs between San Antonio St. (San Juan) and 300 West Hall Acres (San Juan), where parking is available.
