Lake Pflugerville is Pflugerville's drinking water reservoir and a popular recreation spot. Anglers can use any of the seven piers scattered provided to try their luck at landing Largemouth Bass or Channel Catfish. The lake also hosts watersports like kayaking and kite surfing. In addition, there is a swimming beach near the main entrance, on the north side of the lake. However, for those interested in enjoying the park without getting into the water, the trail provides a good diversion.
The Lake Plfugerville Trail is 3 miles of trail rounding the perimeter of the lake. Near the main entrance, the trial begins as concrete but transitions to decomposed granite, good for walkers and joggers. Be aware that there is no shade along the trail, and the heat can be punishing on a sunny day. 1/4 mile markers help you keep track of your progress while rest areas provide respite when a break is needed. Lake Pflugerville and its trail are popular venues for events like 5K's and triathlons.
The main entrance to the park is located at 18216 Weiss Lane. At the trailhead, you'll find parking and restrooms, as well as a play area and pavillion.
This trail is a pretty easy but not flat 3 mile loop around the lake. It’s easy to get to and parking wasn’t an issue. The only drawbacks are that it’s kind of boring and there’s not much in the way of shade as you’re walking but if you don’t mind that then it’s a great loop!
I love that this trail loop around a beautiful lake.
