Lake to Lake Trail Description

Cleveland Metroparks’ Lake to Lake Trail links Lake Isaac and Lake Abram in Middleburg Heights via an asphalt- and boardwalk-surfaced path. The two lakes are the largest remaining glacial wetlands in Cuyahoga County and both are critical habitats for local wildlife.

While most of the trail runs through woodlands and wetlands, a short section on Hepburn Road between Bagley Road and Jefferson Parkway (near the movie theater) used the adjacent sidewalk.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Lake to Lake Trail is available at Lake Isaac on Big Creek Parkway and at Lake Abram on Eastland Road.

Lake to Lake Trail Reviews

A Unique Ecosystem

I rode this trail in May of 2017. This trail connects the last two remaining Kettle Lakes or "glacial potholes" that were formed from the melting of large chunks of glacial ice as the glaciers retreated at the end of the last ice age found in northeast Ohio. These lakes and the surrounding marshes provide habitat for a wide variety of animals, birds, plants and trees. They are thriving ecosystems that thankfully the Cleveland Metroparks have chosen to preserve. This is an interesting little trail as the wetlands are quite wild, yet you pass right by a large hospital and commercial area as well end up near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport when you reach Lake Abram. There are several observation posts along the trail where high-powered telescopes or binoculars are available to search for wildlife. I bet this is an interesting area at dawn and dusk each day.

Good for walking or running, not for biking

Not sure which trail the first reviewer was talking about: this trail runs through the suburban west side. Many annoying starts and stops for bike riders and you must cross a very busy Bagley Road right by Southwest Hospital. The signs are easy to miss; in fact, we missed the location to cross the first time and had to retrace our path. Also very short, and have to dodge walkers and runners the entire time. The Metropark all-purpose trail is much better for riders and is very scenic around Berea, which is very close by. Also there is a Honey Hut on the Metropark trail by the lake viewing area.

Marginal road resurfaced!

Thank you to all the trail development personnel and supporters. Great ride. Still a bit treacherous on the ride down North Park down to University Circle which will get better when the road repairs are complete and the sidewalks reopen. Favorite experiences on this trail are the journey though the Cleveland Cultural Gardens and heading down Marginal Rd to the 9th St Pier and Rock Hall. The scenic views of the waterfront, the improvements at Burke Lakefront Airport, and a lunch stop at the Metroparks 55th St Marina come together for a fantastic ride. Thank you Cleveland for resurfacing Marginal Rd.

Lake to Lake Trail Middleburg Hts, OH

Dear Readers,

Very nice experience within a suburban setting.

Nearer to Eastland Rd., opens into a large protected wetland area -- beautiful, especially when a breeze catches your eye, furrowing and tossing the wetland-flora to-and-fro.

Crossing a lengthy boardwalk configuration makes you realize the intentionality woven into making this otherwise hidden wetland area accessible to those who enjoy outdoor experiences.
