The Long X Trail, which connects to the Maah Daah Hey Trail on either end, follows the Little Missouri River Bottom and then climbs the surrounding hilly grassland along the same route used by old cattle ranchers.
The trail is just south of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Trail users can park at the CCC Campground.
