The 1.5-mile Monticello Bike Trail runs north-south through the heart of Monticello. The trail replaced a long abandoned rail corridor that once ran between Chicago and Tampa. Portions of this abandoned route farther south also spawned other Florida rail trails: the Nature Coast State Trail and the Withlacoochee State Trail.
The trail meanders through neighborhoods and old warehouse areas, relicts from earlier days when the corridor was used as a railroad. The trail does have several street crossings, and though not much traffic abounds, use caution.
Parking for the Monticello Bike Trail is available along Chase Dr. (Monticello).
