Overview
The entirely paved MSU to Lake Lansing Trail extends all the way from the eastern edge of MSU's campus to Haslett and Lake Lansing. The 4.6-mile trail provides a nice neighborhood connection between the university and lake and local park access.
About the Route
The MSU to Lake Lansing trail leaves off from its eastern endpoint at the crosswalk at the intersection of Hagadorn Road and Shaw Lane, then crosses the Red Cedar River and follows it for around a mile before crossing Grand River Avenue.
The trail briefly runs alongside the access drive to the Campus Hill Apartments before winding its way through a forested area and crossing Okemos Road, which it runs alongside for about a half mile before meeting the Inter-Urban Pathway and turning east.
From here, the pathway runs through a somewhat marshy region, where it briefly runs alongside the railroad tracks before climbing a hill and continuing along Marsh Rd. until reaching Lake Lansing Park South on the shores of Lake Lansing.
The MSU to Lake Lansing Trail runs between S Hagadom Rd. (East Lansing) and 1621 Pike St. (Haslett).
There is no specific parking lot dedicated to trail access; however, pay-by-plate parking on MSU's East Campus, as well as Lake Lansing South Park, are in relatively close proximity to the trailheads.
A mix of urban & nature.
The nature segments are excellent, beautiful and lush but the urban parts can be difficult to stay, as markers are few.
