Go by yourself, with a friend, or with man's best friend - just get out onto one of Cary's paved greenway trails. The Northwoods Greenway is a good option - it's just under a mile long, but it travels through scenic woods and along a creek. The trail winds between Robert Godbold Park and Chapel Hill Road (near Northwoods Elementary) and you can start from either end. Starting from the west end, be aware that the trail dips near Godbold Park and then climbs gradually to the other end.
This short trail also makes good connections, to the elementary school as well as to the Godbold Park, skate park and dog park. It also connects to Black Creek Greenway which is over 7 miles long and one of the town's most popular trails.
Park at Robert V. Godbold Park (2050 NW Maynard Rd, Cary), which acts as a trailhead for both the Northwoods Greenway and Black Creek Greenway.
