The Rock Island Swing Bridge Park is a unique example of railroad reuse and provides a fun recreation experience and scenic viewpoint.
About the Route
The trail itself is only 0.2 miles long, and while the bridge does not cross the river, it provides scenic views of the Mississippi and amenities including a restroom, picnic tables, and benches.
Connections
Swing Bridge Park connects to the Mississippi River Regional Trail (Dakota County).
Trail History
The Swing Bridge was one of the few double-decker bridges to span the Mississippi. It was used for trains until 1980, and was partially demolished in 2009 before opening as a park.
Parking for the Rock Island Swing Bridge is available directly at the park. Please see the TrailLink Map for all parking options and detailed directions.
