The Scott Lancaster Memorial Bike Path is a short, but pleasant 5 miles of mostly off-road route that allows cyclists and walkers to get between Idaho Springs and Floyd Hill, which is otherwise only traversable along Interstate 70. The scenic trail follows Clear Creek through a backdrop of forested mountains. For a part of the way, the trail follows County Road 314 (E. Idaho Springs Rd.), but traffic is often light.
In Idaho Springs park at Shelly/Quinn Field on the east end of town. The trail begins here along CR 314.
I know what you are thinking. It's a 5 mile trail it's hardly worth the drive. Idaho Springs has made an effort to improve the tourism in their historic town. The trail follows Clear Creek and winds through history. See a narrow gauge steam locomotive, a water wheel, a water fall and the historic district. This ride illustrates the the mineral belt and it's grand history. See how the west was won.
Good workout but trail pretty bumpy in spots. Take caution as sand and gravel over asphalt periodically. Nice views along Clear Creek.
