Mass Central Rail Trail

Westwood to Wayland section

June, 2020 by jadsmith001

This section has been open for a year or two now (June 2020) and is excellent condition all along following the power lines. Approximately 4 miles long end to end with nice smooth black top ideal for cycling, now also attracting walkers, skaters etc. There are footpaths into the adjacent woods.
There is a car park at the Wayland end easily accessible from the intersection of rte 126 and 27. At the eastern end the last access point is at Church Street, Weston. Further east it just dead ends at a decrepit bridge.

The Vermont section of the D&H has been repaved from West Rupert to Castleton as of June 2020. This pavement is a combination of stone, cinder, and asphalt. It is beautiful.

Ashuelot Recreational Rail Trail

Enjoyable Ride

June, 2020 by hike4kx2

We took the advice of a previous reviewer and began our ride at the athletic fields on Kroc Street in Keene. We headed southwest and ride to Monadnock Speedway . The first several miles are well pack and relatively smooth. After that the trail is a mixed bag. A couple short sandy sections, a couple very muddy areas, and some narrow grassy riding. The grades are easy and overall the trail is very rideable. On our next outing here we will start by the Speedway, where there is enough parking for several cars.

Challenging Ride June 2020

June, 2020 by pettestaats

We did part of the northern section starting in Keene.
As we rode further from Keene the trail became more rustic and sandy.
The next day we rode from the southern end. This part of the trail was also a challenge in spots. However the river and the history made both rides enjoyable.

Champlain Canalway Trail: Saratoga

Good for social distancing / Pretty meadow views

A nice, leisurely trail. They’ve widened the trail.. it’s at least six feet, to allow plenty of social distancing.

Ashuwillticook Rail Trail

Improvements just about done!!!

Did the route from Lanesborough yesterday, May 30th 2020, from the Old Lanesborough Mall through Adams to near the North Adams line where the trail ends right before you join Rt 8 across from Speciality Minerals. The lower end is not yet finished, but all ready for black top final and would expect it to be done by end of July at latest. Lower part is definitely passable until they start final pave. You can also do the route from North to South and cut out part of the unfinished section by exiting at Old State Road and coming into the Old Lanesborough Mall on the North end. The parking area below the Mall is closed and you must park in the Old Mall anyway. I didn't see any new action yet on the link going on up into North Adams, but if you haven't ever done so, it's a short jaunt from the current north trail end at route 8 up to where you can cut over by the VoTech school and come all the way into North Adams and Mass MOCA, but since I knew the brewery there would be closed, I didn't give it a shot.

Black Bridge Trail

A nice short trail

May, 2020 by lughnerson

I have ridden it several times. At the south end it links to the Albany Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail, though the signage is lacking. The north end in Waterford is very scenic and you can access another unpaved trail in the village that runs along the old Erie canal and northword. The best is being there for the Tugboat festival near Labor Day weekend. Waterford is a great little village.

Beautiful ride from Keene

May, 2020 by tamasinewc

Today my husband and I took the trail from Keene and went 6 miles before turning back just due to our own time constraints. The trail is used but not crowded. It is excellent for bikes BUT not skinny wheel bikes! Also the bridge is out in Keene so begin the trail at 110 Krif Rd, Keene, NH 03431 by the Keene State Athletic Field. There is parking and the trail is right there. We had a great time and will do it again in the future.

My favorite section of the Erie Canal is when I bike from Tow path in Pittsford to Long Pond in Greece where the gravel begins. The whole trail is asphalt and it's really smooth. It's a good 30 miles I would say.
