Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail

Regular Rider

May, 2019 by jharch

I ride this trail on a regular basis. It is quiet and mostly shaded. The asphalt paving can be rough in some areas due to tree roots growing under the paving but overall it is not a problem. Quite a bit of traffic at times, both walkers and cyclist. Lots of wildlife and some really nice views of the river.

Surprise Trail Stop

April, 2019 by heochief

My wife and I stopped at this trail on our travels to Florida. We stopped at this trail to get a quick ride in. We found the trail to be a great trail that offered many splendid views in a urban and country setting. The trail is flat and wider than typical. This was a gorgeous spring day and the trail was heavily traveled but well spaced with the traffic. The trail seems to be used as a connector trail. The trail is flat and very smooth paved asphalt. Great trail we will be back and use the trail for a moment to get out of the car. The trail is relatively close to the interstate.

I run on this trail every week and it is especially beautiful in the morning with the mist rising off the river. Great trail along river that connects to downtown.

Needs PROPER maintnance

A trail with a LOT of potential if maintained properly. The original trailbed is gravel, a mix between no. 57 and no. 67, and for the most part was pleasant, well, the 1/2 mile of the 1.5 miles one way that we rode that wasn’t redone in large no. 1 and no. 3 stones (Im talking 1/2” to 3” rocks here) and that was a rough ride. Whoever made the decision to fill the holes with fist sized rocks needs fired. At the end of my brief ride, one of my tires started going flat. This trail as is may be great for hikers and horses, but is bad for bikes. I won’t be back.

Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail

Beautiful walking trail!

January, 2019 by blessedjcm

I went with my son and two grandchildren in the Fall. It was so beautiful and peaceful! The paved part was easy enough for almost anyone to walk. We did not go on the gravel portion. Several trees at the beginning were labeled with type if you look closely. The trail was clean. I hope to go again at different times of the year!

Nuts and ruts and butts!

Beautiful scenery. Easy trail grade overall. Saw some very large sycamore trees. Saw soft shell turtles, frogs and box turtles on the trail and great blue herons at the waters edge. Only drawbacks: 5 of the six bridge approaches were hernia busters, some at least 3-4 inches high; no mileage signs at all, no maps at the TH, no maps on the kiosks either (like to take a photo of map to use as guide), no real TH at Lock A either. Still a good trail despite the roots and washouts and the frequent and large black walnut husks and osage oranges. Hitting those items at speed could cause a wreck. I think I knocked the box turtle with my bike. I hope the fella pulls through. Hard to see him with all the leaf litter, branches, dirt and rocks on the trail.

Richard Martin Trail

Very Disappointed........

August, 2018 by dmckee622

We have ridden this trail 4 or 5 times in the past and we have really enjoyed it, but not this time. We started at the caboose in town and headed north on the trail. It was very rough. Lots of tree limbs and debris. There were large rocks that made the going very tough. Looks like someone has stopped maintaining the trail. We made it to the northern end after a very rough ride. We decided that we just couldn't head back on the trail so we rode the road back into Elkmont.

We were so disappointed in the trail that we did not try the southern part. We just drove the 2 hours back home.

It is a shame because we have enjoyed the trail in the past. We won't come back unless something is done for the trail.

Ugly

I don't get the 5 star reviews or the trail description. Rode from behind Titans stadium to trail end. It is 14.26 miles round trip. After you clear the Riverfront area full of trash and homeless, the first half of the trail is past warehouses, and cement factories. You can't see the river at all. When you clear that you still have warehouses on the land side and the view in this section of the river ain't much. No water and one porta-potie that I assume is associated with the golf course.

Nice ride along the Cumberland River, but you’d never know it. While grass around the trail was well maintained, undergrowth from trail to river blocks over 90% of water view. Otherwise, loved the experience.

Richland Creek Greenway

As Henry David Thureau once said - A walk a day keeps the Doc away!

To take my mind of the chaos of the world we live in, I walk the Richland Creek Greenway each and every afternoon. The scenic creek crossings and the meandering trails can put even the most-troubled minds at ease. The wide paths allow bikers, runners, walkers, dogs, children, and strollers to easily maneuver.

Empty

The trail really never have anyone there, so far this year I've seen more snakes than people and some were nice length. Nice park hate to see it go to waste
