Johnson Lake Hike and Bike Trail

Great trip around the lake just over 10 miles. Paved concrete for most of it. A little bit of road. Several service points along the way along with rest stops

Great Trail Through a Great Town

August, 2023 by jsafret

This was the second stop in our 2023 "Tour de Great Plains & Colorado" bike trip. The trail was in excellent condition, mostly flat and the town of Kearny is the best of America, you really couldn't find better place to stop and ride. It really does seem like the place where you can leave the front door unlocked.

Johnson Lake Hike and Bike Trail

Bike and beer

July, 2023 by nerdnic1058

Nice, well maintained concrete trail. We rode on a Saturday and the two short sections shared by road traffic had minimal traffic. We parked at Canyon Lakes Brewing Company on the Southeast section of the trail. Good place for food and beer after the ride.

Johnson Lake Hike and Bike Trail

Nice paved trail.

May, 2022 by neilrisinger

The Johnson Lake Trail has two 4-mile sections of dedicated biking trail. The trail is mainly flat with a few hills that are manageable. You have two sections that you are on the asphalt road that does not have a shoulder. But each section is less than a mile. 4 stars because of the shared roadway. Hopefully in the future they have a bridge over the lake unlit like they have over the outlet.

Riverway Trail

beautiful and interesting

June, 2021 by fletchercham61

We parked near the Stuhr Museum and took off away from the museum, planning to bike while it was still cool and then visit the fabulous place. It was not well marked but easy for the most part to follow. It was really fun with the tall grasses. We were on a paved pathway for quite a while on a file and then the trail just stopped. We went further riding on gravel and in the grass but decided to head back to the museum. Make time to visit the museum. It’s really great.

Shoemaker Trail

Safe and well maintained

June, 2021 by dsglunz64

There is lots of maintained green space, only a short block parallels busy road. Several benches if needing a break. Easily accessible parking at nearby churches and schools. At crosswalk, my dog and I waited but the traffic stopped and allowed us to pass!

Pioneer Spirit Trail

Wide, new concrete.

April, 2021 by gary.pslmer3

Read somewhere that Hastings rcvd a Green Town award. The Pioneer Spirit is a linked set of trails, mostly quiet enough to hear the birds. Runs by a college and at least three parks. Then on into town. I also rode a new segment from my hotel out into cornfield territory, where the sky is enormous!

Cottonmill Double track Trails: Old fathers Trail

A great, flowing, double track trail that allows great views of Platte Valley.

Pheasant Ridge Trail

Great trail

July, 2020 by scottmcknz

Great concrete trail that goes along the NW side of Harlan County Lake. West end of trail starts just off of US Hwy 183 in Alma and the east end is at Methodist Cove campground/boat dock. Trail is relatively flat, just some minor hills, very easy ride/walk. Many benches along the trail overlooking the scenic views of Harlan County Lake. Wildlife is also very prevalent along this trail. I have witnessed rabbits, squirrels, deer, pheasants, fox, turkey, turtles, deer, raccoon and even a very small lizard.

Dannebrog Trail

Finally rode the trail

May, 2020 by neilrisinger

Nice small 3 mile trail. The south east section the concrete isn’t very smooth. Having to ride back on the highway to get from one to the other is not ideal. The nature trail is well-maintained even though it is just a dirt track. Will remember my bike when I am in Dannebrog in the future. Will ride this trail again.
