Trail surface is mostly ground gravel of cinder consistency . Larger gravel on the trail is near the visitor center and some of the road crossings . The section west of the Gibson Station parking lot is no longer maintained. I used my road bike with no issues except for slippage in a couple loose cinder , sandy areas. Overall this is a lovely trail with little traffic. Saw 10 or so hikers and no bikers, on a Saturday. I have been riding this trail for many years. There is lots of new activities to do in the park by the visitor center and new walking trails open . You could easily spend a day with the kids here .
Nice paved trail. More than enough hills for this Floridian!
Good place to ride Not to hard to navigate between sections. Some nice scenery and some so so. Easy to jump off and ride around the UT campus Be sure and tour the UT gardens while you ride by
There are new parts of the Greenway off springbrook towards Clayton. Would love to know what those look like.
Just completed the 9 mile trek; somewhat challenging for me cuz I’m out of bike shape. Those of you who ride full time will know what I mean with regards to bike shape. Otherwise, it was quite fun. The surrounding hills are eye candy for me but I have to say that it’s worth a one time ride just to mark it off my list of trails to ride. FYI, I want to ride every one of them before I kick the bucket.
Easy trail, can stop at various points to enjoy the sites. Riding through the Island when it is crowded is challenging but doable.
My husband , daughter and I loved this trail!
This is a nice little easy trail for everyone!
Prefect for beginners. The view of the trial is beautiful
This trail is on either side of the road for about 4.5 miles. There is a parking lot at the east end at the corner of Towns End dr. Across the street from there is a gas station with bathrooms outdoors. Townsend is tucked in between mountains near the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains so the views are spectacular. There are several historical sites and markers, along with a couple of informative signs about more area history. If you get hungry be sure and stop at one of the many local restaurants. I always follow my ride with a dunk in the river. It's also worth noting that one side of the road is mostly flat while the other is quite hilly so you can choose easy or challenging.
Knoxville has several trails and this one is connected to a couple of others including Sequoyah and 3 mile creek. There are plenty of trees, benches and shade. Rolling hills make it a fun ride. Holston Park has a bathroom and parking. It also connects to Southerland Ave in a couple of places if you want to stop for lunch.
Enjoyable ride amongst the river enjoying nature. Have the ability to visit the island and old mill with easy access. Lots of rest points for smaller children or older adults.
