We rode the GAP from Cedar Creek Park to the Boston trailhead at the base of the Historic Boston Bridge and back. About 36 miles round trip. What a great ride. Smooth trail with lots of benches and several picnic areas and toilet facilities. Well maintained. Passed through several little communities along the trail. No major highways and very few little roads to cross making it very safe. Got a delicious huge “medium” size ice cream cone at the “Big Twist” in Blythedale, right off the trail. Highly recommend this ride!
I just finished riding the entire Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. This trail is truly one of the most beautiful paved rail-trails in the country — smooth, scenic, and full of variety, from quiet wetlands and river corridors to sweeping lake views and historic Silver Valley towns. I rode it with Discovery Bicycle Tours, and the trip couldn’t have been better. Our guides, Steven and Ali, were absolutely outstanding. They brought the perfect mix of professionalism, encouragement, and fun to every mile. Their knowledge of the trail, attention to detail, and genuine care for the group made the entire journey feel effortless and enjoyable. Whether it was keeping us fueled, sharing local history, or cheering us through the long stretches, they were exceptional every step of the way. If you’re considering this trail, I highly recommend experiencing it with Discovery Bicycle Tours. The combination of world-class scenery and top-tier guiding made this ride something truly special.
I rode this trail with a few friends on May 2-3 2026. We had breakfast at The Gateway cafe, which is in sight of the trailhead in Plummer, and I would definitely recommend. Their generous breakfast portions fueled us up for the trip ahead. We parked at the Plummer trailhead, and on the first day we rode all the way to Wallace, which is a cool town with a beautiful historic downtown. On the way, we stopped for lunch at the Timbers Roadhouse in Cataldo, which had some great sandwich options and worked well with our pacing for a lunch stop. For the ride, weather was perfect and we enjoyed amazing views and saw deer, turtles, birds, and a moose alongside the trail.
On the second day, we rode from Wallace to the Mullan trailhead in the morning before returning to Wallace to pack up our Airbnb. This section mostly follows the road, but is separate and in the trees enough to still be enjoyable. The ride back to Plummer was as good as the first day and we stopped in Harrison for lunch at the Lakeside Grill and ice cream at the Creamery, both places I'd recommend checking out if you find yourself in Harrison.
If you're planning to ride the full trail as we did, be sure to take as much water as you think you'll need, as well as some snacks to keep your energy up. The towns with resources are pretty far apart, so you don't want to be caught out unprepared.
Everyone in my crew thoroughly enjoyed the experience and agreed that this would be a great trail to ride again.
Highly recommend this beautiful and well kept trail. Beautiful to ride along the trees and over the 2 epic ohiopyle bridges.
Google Maps takes you to the wrong location. Use the directions listed here. Very chill flat path, beautiful river, and saw lots of wildlife.
We had the best day on the trail. Nice trail ride for anyone. Recommend getting the shuttle back to Silver Fir for convenience! Made for a great day! Pletny of places to stop and tons to see along the way.
Me and my family grew up camping on Lake Chatcolet and biking this trail. We love making a stop in Harrison for the delicious ice cream at Harrison Creamery & Fudge Factory
We had a wonderful ride on this trail. It is short but the scenery is beautiful as it winds along the Palouse River through woods and along farms.
Ok section, kind of dull. Agriculture & cows. Found a bit of shade by a grain elevator for lunch. Several washouts filled with tumbleweeds as you get closer to Lind.
Attempted to ride from the trail end in Pullman, WA to Moscow, ID. The experience was super disappointing. Cracks in the asphalt (bitumen) surface are so numerous and so big and so poorly patched that it's completely unusable as a transportation corridor. By numerous, I mean cracks every 3 to 20 meters for the length of the part I rode. And anywhere from 5 cm to 15 cm wide across for the width of the trail. And deep.
The trail isn't practical for bicycle commuting because the cracks make traveling at an efficient speed difficult. I spent so much time focusing on the cracks and standing in the pedals to dampen the shocks that I could never focus on anything else or gain any speed. And they would be absolutely damaging to the wheels of a bike loaded with groceries. I suppose an ebike with large low pressure tires wouldn't be affected too badly, but that's an exception to what most cyclists use.
I gave up and turned around after less than 4 km. Two star because it's still a nice walking/jogging trail.
We started in Akron and rode about 18 miles north. Loved it!!!
