Murfreesboro's Stones River Trail

Columbus Day weekend ride

October, 2025 by rrsusaf

Our second ride was captivating with beautiful weather (first e-bike ride was Shiloh Military Park). We parked at Cannonsburgh Village and rode to the north trailhead (Thompson Lane Park) then back to the south trailhead (Barfield Crescent Park). Paved 10’ wide asphalt 95% excellent with some minor damage from underlying roots causing bumps and a few dips. More noticeable on trikes. We expected a crowded path for the weekend but pleasantly surprised with a few other bikers, joggers and dog walkers. The path crosses the river several times and progresses underneath most cross traffic highways. Restrooms available at the multiple parks and shorter trailheads. Overall we travelled just over 26 miles and though we’re feeling it today,, the overall beauty made the ride worth it. Only con were the occasional homeless encampments at the beginning of our ride.

Mountain Goat Trail

trail is completely paved now

The trail from Sewanee to Tracy City is all asphalt now which is about 12.5 miles. The only caveat is you must ride in the bike lane on the highway that goes over I-24. If you’re coming from Sewanee look for College Street that runs parallel to the highway after you cross the bridge. It basically dead ends into the trail. Beautiful trail, about 70% shaded, inclines are very modest.

First cool day in August 2025

August, 2025 by fqthewench711

Dropped in at Barfield Road trailhead and headed up, 15.3 miles out and back on a beautiful summer day. Cicadas were loud and the birds were singing! Our first time on the trail after reading all the reviews and we loved it! Every city in America should be made to put in one of these to this caliber. Murfreesboro should be proud! Lots of people enjoying this day.

Is the trail a continuation or is it broken up on the other side of the interstate?

The Board Walk Closed indefinitely

September, 2024 by tncanuck

All of us are wondering why the City is taking so very long to open the Board Walk Section. People are climbing the fence and using it now. I called and Metro said it is unsafe, yet they have abandoned working on it for us all to use. They finished the Clover Bottom area to the TSB, but they are not working at all on the Board Walk. All of us are truly saddened that Metro is just to busy to handle the work over here for us.

Road It 30 miles

Trail is now 12 miles. Signs stating they are looking to expand to 40 miles in the future. Took some time in Sewanee College. Beautiful building there. Will definitely visit again.

Mountain Goat Trail

This trail is now over 10 miles long and makes for a great ride. More shade than sun, gently sloped and well maintained. Use this trail often and continue to see new things. Paul and Gayle

Savage Day Loop

Nice Waterfall

July, 2024 by rzkj7sqmsf

We’ve hiked this trail many times. It’s NOT a bike trail and we’ve never seen anyone try. We like this trail in all seasons. It’s well marked and in the wetter season the waterfall is beautiful. The loop trail has a great spot to view the rolling hills. Excellent parking and primitive camping if it interests you. Rated easy but a short section is close to moderate.

Gorgeous trail

June, 2024 by trishwomack514

This is a beautiful well maintained easy shaded and paved trail between 2 unique and gorgeous eclectic towns. Both towns have so much to offer in way of cute restaurants, shops and architecture. Highly recommend. First outing on our new bikes and couldn’t have picked a more perfect trail.

Murfreesboro's Stones River Trail

lovely ride

Rode to the north trailhead and just south to i24 where the trail is now under construction. Nice amount of traffic and we even saw some wild turkeys. Would come again if ever I pass through Murfreesboro again.
