The 12th Street Trail, occasionally referred to as the Pheasant Ridge Trail after the golf course it runs next to, is a wide concrete sidepath that stretches from Hudson Road to Union Road on the western edge of Cedar Falls. The trail offers off-road access for cyclists and pedestrians to popular destinations like the campus of the University of Northern Iowa and Roger Birdsall Memorial Park, and also forms the southern end of a loop circuit of sidepath trails that provides residents with a fantastic opportunity for exercise and recreation.
The western end of the trail begins at the junction with the Union Road Trail; the trail continues east along the edges of the property belonging to the city's Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Passing the entrance to the Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex, which offers tennis courts and athletic fields in addition to restrooms and parking, the trail passes the entrance to another local recreation area, the 250-acre Roger Birdsall Memorial Park. With plentiful picnicking and play areas, the park makes a great stop for families out on the trail. The Hudson Road Trail on the eastern end of the trail allows you to continue your journey north onto the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, or south towards a connection to the Cedar Prairie Trail.
Parking is available along the trail at the Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex and the Roger Birdsall Memorial Park, both located on W 12th Street west of Union Road. Restrooms are also available at both sites.
