Picking up from the end of the 1st Street Trail, the Union Road Trail continues the network of multi-use sidepath trails on the western edge of Cedar Falls, serving as the western section of a sweeping loop of off-road trails that provide a great means of recreation for area residents. Running for one mile along the side of Union Road, the trail connects to the 12th Street Trail on the southern end, which in turn connects to the Hudson Road Trail and back up to the 1st Street Trail, creating a neat little circuit.
The Union Road Trail doesn't offer the most scenic of trail experiences, with little shade and surrounding views occupied largely by suburban homes, but it does provide a convenient means of getting around the adjoining neighborhoods. The Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex and the Roger Birdsall Memorial Park are just a short distance away on the 12th Street Trail at the southern end, and trail users can even reach the campus of the University of Northern Iowa without having to leave the network of wide sidepath trails.
No dedicated parking is available for the trail; parking is available at the nearby Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex off of W 12th Street just east of the intersection with Union Road.
