Installed in 2018 as part of a major overhaul of the adjacent roadway, the University Avenue Trail provides convenient access to destinations on the corridor that were previously impossible to reach safely. Part of the area's expansive system of multi-use trails, the trail offers connections to the Greenhill Trail (via the short Cedar Heights Drive Trail) as well as the Cedar Prairie Trail, a lovely path that you can take into the heart of Cedar Falls or out into the beautiful rural surroundings. The wide sidepath trail also offers easy access to the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, allowing students to get around the area without needing to hop in a car; the University Avenue Trail is a shining example of what happens when a city cares for transportation of all types when designing roads.
Parking is available near the trail's intersection with the Cedar Prairie Trail in the Central Park lot, a block north off of Seerley Boulevard just east of Grove Street. Additional parking is available at the University of Northern Iowa for those with permits; be sure to follow any posted parking signs.
