A multi-use sidepath that runs from University Avenue to 1st Street in Cedar Falls, the Hudson Road Trail helps provide off-road access to the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, and forms an important link in the area trail network. Just to the south of the end of the trail, the Greenhill Trail continues east and north towards the Cedar River and Waterloo. On the northern end of the trail, the 1st Street Trail provides another sidepath to continue your journey west for another mile and a half, helping to form a looping network of trails around the western edge of Cedar Falls.
By far the biggest destination along the trail is the University of Northern Iowa - the path detours from the roadside to run right up to the UNI Dome and the McLeod Center, the main athletic venues where the Panthers play. The trail runs through numerous neighborhoods and within short distances of local schools, helping students of all ages with a convenient path to and from school. Quiet neighborhood streets can take trail users from the north end of the trail east into Cedar Falls' charming historic downtown area, where even more trails await along the banks of the Cedar River.
No dedicated trail parking is available for this path. Parking may be available at local businesses or on-street; be sure to follow any posted parking signs. Those with parking permits for the University of Northern Iowa may park at any of the numerous parking lots around the sports facilities off of Hudson Road. The trail is easily reached from State Route 58/27 by taking University Avenue west for about a mile to the intersection with Hudson Road.
