The Arkansas City Hike-Bike Trail is a gentle paved path that runs along the Arkansas River on the southwest border of Arkansas City. The north end of the trail picks up behind the public pool (600 W 5th Ave) and curves around Carver Park (102 N 8th St) before following W Chestnut Ave to the river. The pool and park facilities include picnic tables, a playground, restrooms, a splash pad, and of course a pool. There is another park across the street, Paris Park (210 S 6th St), that has picnic tables, a playground, restrooms, a covered shelter with a small kitchen area, tennis courts, and is connected to a local athletic center.
Paralleling the river as it heads south, the trail offers views of both the city and the water. A pedestrian bridge crosses W Madison Ave and there are picnic tables, benches, and trash receptacles along the route. The trail passes by Veterans Memorial Lake and ends by the city's Charlie Dow Sports Complex (520 Lincoln Ave), which includes football and soccer fields, a playground, a covered picnic shelter, restrooms, and parking. Veteran Memorial Lake (1400 S 6th St) has a covered picnic shelter, picnic tables, parking, restrooms, a boat ramp, and fishing access. The river and lake both offer a wonderful opportunity for birding, with a diverse assortment of birds either making their home or pausing for a rest while passing through.
The paved path is flat, typically at least 5ft wide, and has a smooth concrete surface, making it more accessible for those using mobility aids or those with strollers.
Pet are welcome, but must be on a leash.
In Arkansas City parking is available at the Linda Adams Hargrove Athletic Center (617 W Washington Ave), the city-owned venue space Agri-Business Building (712 W Washington Ave), the Paris Park Pool (600 W 5th Ave), the Charlie Dow Sports Complex (520 Lincoln Ave), and the Veteran Memorial Lake (1400 S 6th St).
