The Arroyo Colorado Trail offers an east-west route across Harlingen, which is situated in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas. On its west end, the trail begins at C.B. Wood Park, a family-friend spot with a playground and covered picnic shelter. From there, the paved trail heads east along a tree-lined waterway called the Arroyo Colorado. Midway along the route, travelers will pass Harlingten Thicket, a 40-acre nature reserve and popular birding spot. The trail continues from there to end in McKelvey Park, which provides another playground and picnic areas.
On the trail's west end, parking is available in C.B. Wood Park (400 W. Harding Ave.). Mid-trail, parking and restrooms are available at Harlingen Thicket (311 E. Taft). On the trail's east end, parking is available in McKelvey Park (1325 S. 77 Sunshine Strip).
