Barker Road Trail begins on the town line between North Andover and Boxford in northern Massachusetts, not far from the New Hampshire border. From there, the pathway continues through dense woodlands and farm fields on a straight northeast course into Boxford's Far Corner Golf Course.
About a half-mile southeast from the trail is a unique attraction: Carter Fields, a large blue heron rookery. As many as 70 pairs of herons make nests there each May and June.
Parking is available at Carter Fields, about a half-mile southeast of the Bradford Street and Barker Road intersection in North Andover, where the trail begins.
