Bear Lake, nicknamed the Caribbean of the Rockies due to the striking turquoise hue of its waters, is nestled into the northwest corner of Utah, straddling Utah and Idaho. The Bear Lake Legacy Pathway is envisioned to be an uninterrupted 50-mile off-street path around Bear Lake. A sample of what's to come can be found on the southwest side of Bear Lake in Rich County, stretching from Bear Lake State Park marina through Garden City and down to Ideal Beach.
The asphalt, two-lane trail is adjacent to Bear Lake Boulevard for most of its length, except for a 0.9-mile Garden City segment where it diverts a block west to N 100 W. Street. Lakefront houses and other buildings, as well as vegetation, unfortunately mostly obscure views of the lake, although as one rides south, they can count on brief glimpses of the bright blue water framed by rolling grey mountains. The trail comes to an end at the entrance of the Ideal Beach Resort.
Park at the Bear Lake State Park office at the marina (940 N Bear Lake Blvd, Garden City, UT). Follow any posted parking regulations.
