Overview
The Gateway Trail is a 1.12-mile rail trail located just southwest of Ithaca in Tompkins County NY.
About the Route
Along Stone Quarry Rd., trail users will come across the entrance to the Gateway Trail. To the east, the trail is grass, largely impassable, and not considered part of the official route. To the west, a gravel trail marked with a wooden gate.
From here, the trail travels southwest. The route passes behind several retail establishments and skirts the entrance to Buttermilk Falls State Park before crossing over Elmira Rd. via. a pedestrian bridge. The southernmost portion of the trail here skirts alongside a parking lot for a Home Depot, though it still maintains its shaded and wooded character and it separated from the parking lot with a wooden fence.
The Gateway Trail runs between Stone Quarry Rd. (Ithaca) and near 410 Elmira Rd (Ithaca), with parking available at the western end.
