Starting along River Rd in Gatlinburg, the Gatlinburg Trail travels 1.3 miles along the Little Pigeon River. This trail provides park visitors and Gatlinburg locals with a connection between the Sugarlands Visitor Center and downtown Gatlinburg.
The scenic woods of the Great Smokies and the picturesque rocky banks of the Little Pigeon River provide the perfect short ride along the edges of a beautiful national park. Some trail highlights include a boardwalk bridge spanning the Little Pigeon River, and various ruins including chimneys and household remains from old settlements.
The trail ends at the Sugarlands Maintenance Center, which is just slightly up the road from the Sugarlands Visitor Center. From the Visitor Center, park visitors can access a number of hiking-only trails, including the Fighting Creek Nature Trail. See here for more information on Great Smoky Mountains National Park attractions.
There is designated parking at the River Rd. trailhead in Gatlinburg, however there are only two spots at this location. There are three more parking locations along Newfound Gap Road North with access to the Gatlinburg Trail, and also parking along Park Headquarters Rd. at the Sugarlands Maintenance Center. See the TrailLink Map for more detailed information.
