Will Skelton Greenway is 3.5 miles of adventure just miles from Downtown Knoxville. Beginning at Island Home Park, the greenway stretches east along the banks of the Tennessee River, treating users to panoramic views of the water. About a mile in, trail users come to the Ijams Nature Center, a 300-acre urban nature sanctuary that is home to a range of bird and wildlife species. The trail parallels Island Home Avenue and McClure Lane into the Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area, where the paved greenway merges into the unpaved park trails. Be sure to visit around the early weeks of July for the breathtaking spectacle of sunflower fields in full bloom.
During the hunting season (August to February), bicycle use off the greenway in the Forks of the River WMA is prohibited. Exercise caution at this time as there may be armed hunters in the area.
Parking can be found at Island Home Park (2225 Estelle Circle); Ijams Nature Center (main entrance is located at 3209 Island Home Avenue) and the Forks of the River WMA located at 3140 McClure Lane.
