This one-mile link in Knoxville chain of greenways sits on the banks of the Tennessee River. The greenway starts at the Gov. Ned McWherter/Riverside Landing Park, which sits in the shadow of the James White Parkway bridge. It’s at this point where it intersects with the Morningside Greenway. From there, it travels west, paralleling both the river and the Knoxville and Holston River Railroad tracks. Mileage markers are planted every quarter mile. The trail comes to a halt at the First Creek bridge in the Volunteer Landing Marina. From there, the path becomes the Neyland Greenway, and continues along the waterfront for another 3 miles. Future plans by the city of Knoxville will see the trail extended across the James White Parkway bridge up to the Will Skelton Greenway.
There are about 20 spaces available at Gov. Ned McWerther Park. To get there from I-40, take exit 388A for James White Parkway. Continue on James White Parkway for 0.6 miles, then take the Hill Avenue exit towards Riverside Drive. Make a right onto Riverside Drive and the park will be on the right, directly under the bridge.
