A sidepath trail that follows a stretch of its namesake roadway south of Pensacola, the Gulf Breeze Parkway Trail offers a useful transportation route for cyclists and pedestrians looking to navigate between the gorgeous beaches and beachside communities in this western section of the panhandle.
With the exception of some narrower stretches on the western end, the trail maintains a smooth, wide asphalt surface. While the adjacent roadway makes for a loud and not very scenic companion to the trail, the beautiful Florida woods to the south, which mark the edge of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, helps to improve the surroundings and offers some much-needed shade.
Parking may be available at local businesses on the western end of the trail; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
It is a busy car corridor, but the path is separate from the roadway and pretty smooth. A multi-year upgrade of the road east of the green area of the map is leading to better trail crossings of the multiple business entrances and streets. I believe the final resurfacing is being done this spring. It is a short trail but a much needed chance to relax a bit from the not-so-biker-friendly areas at either end.
This was a fun simple trail that went in multiple directions. They all led to different beach access. It was very quite and peaceful and not challenging in the sense of elevation. So a great time for anyone :)
