The Haggetts Rail Trail is a short trail located on the periphery of Haggetts Pond, the local reservoir for the nearby town of Andover. Built on part of the former line of the historic Lowell and Lawrence Railroad, the trail offers a great, quiet place to go for a run or walk through the lovely, wooded landscape. The trail is Andover's first town sponsored ADA compliant trail and provides accessible recreation opportunities and access to one of the community's most valued natural resources and the serene environment surrounding Haggetts Pond.
About the Route
The trail begins in the south off of Haggetts Pond Road and heads north along the edge of the pond. A short side trail to the left provides access from Woodhill Road and allows you to explore more of the conservation area lands. Continuing on a flat and easy route through the thickly wooded land surrounding the pond, the trail comes to an end at High Plain Road. See the TrailLink Map for full route details.
The trail includes an 8-foot-wide asphalt pathway, a boardwalk offering a scenic viewpoint of the pond, and benches along the trail. Anyone interested in local history or just looking for a relaxing place to get some exercise, should keep their eye out for this little gem.
Parking is available near the southern trailhead on Haggetts Pond Road, with accessible spaces provided. A rapid flashing beacon has been installed at the crosswalk to support safe access between the parking area and the trail.
