A sidepath trail that runs follows a section of highway east of the Iowa River in Iowa City, the Highway 6 Trail is a paved pathway that helps connect residents with shopping destinations and eateries, as well as the Iowa River Corridor Trail, a sprawling recreational asset that spans the length of the riverside through the area.
The Highway 6 Trail offers a much less scenic route than some of the city's other trails, following the side of a busy roadway instead of a river or creek, but it provides a useful commuting and transportation path for residents of the southeastern neighborhoods. City officials have plans to one day extend the trail further east, continuing the trail along the highway all the way to Heinz Road on the outskirts of the city.
Parking may be available at local businesses along the route of the trail, off of Highway 6.
