A concrete pathway that runs for just shy of a mile, the Lower Finkbine Trail forms a crucial link in the Iowa City area's multi-use trail network, connecting residents of the University Heights neighborhood with a trails system that can take users up and down the Iowa River or all the way across the suburban communities to the northwest.
The trail hugs the side of Finkbine Commuter Drive in the south and then Hawkins Drive in the north, giving cyclists and pedestrians the same commuting opportunities that the adjacent roadway offers cars. Along the way, the trail intersects with the Mormon Trek/Coralville Strip Nature Trail, which trail users can take for a scenic route onto the nearby University of Iowa campus. The northern end of the trail leads into a section of the Iowa River Corridor Trail, a sprawling trail that provides access to a number of recreation sites and popular destinations along the river.
Numerous parking lots are available along the length of the trail and on the nearby university campus, and city buses and campus shuttles both offer stops along the trail. Visit the TrailLink map for all options and detailed directions. Refer to the Iowa City Transit webpage for more information.
