Overview
The J Neils Walking Trail runs for 4.5 miles through the scenic Libby, Montana. The route is mostly paved and flat.
About the Route
The J Neils Walking Trail has a northern endpoint a J Neils Memorial Park, which offers a dog park as well as baseball and soccer fields. The trail here does a wide loop around the park, which is mostly shaded by the surrounding woods.
Trail users can also continue south here along Champion Haul Rd. which turns back into a trail shortly after leaving the park. This section of the trail runs along the former railroad corridor and crosses the river along an old railroad trestle.
Just after crossing the Kootenay River, the trail splits briefly, where a spur trail takes a loop around a small pond.
The next, more southern section of the trail meanders alongside the small Libby Creek. This section is a paved asphalt route. Near the southern end of the route, the trail leaves off from the creek and heads through open fields as the trail approaches its southern endpoint at Spencer Rd.
The J Neils Walking Trail runs between J Neils Memorial Park, 1301 MT-37 (Libby), where parking is available, and 21 Spencer Rd. (Libby).
