A short paved multi-use path, the Katy Hike/Bike Trail follows a section of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (the "Katy") through Chanute.
Starting just north of Katy Park, the trail cuts through fields and woods. From the southern trailhead off of East Main Street, the trail passes under the K-39 highway/E Elm St and heads north through a covered bridge to a second trailhead on Evergreen Avenue. Crossing Evergreen Avenue, the trail curves to meet Highland Avenue. From here the trail continues as an on-street bike route until it reaches Pine Street, where it again becomes a paved trail.
Passing under the K-39 highway/N Lincoln Avenue again, the paved trail continues into downtown Chanute and runs parallel to an active railroad. The trail ends on West Main Street by the historic Santa Fe Depot and across from the Chanute-Wright Brothers Memorial. There is a small area here with benches, historic informational plaques, a mini fenced dog park, and the Ocatave Chanute glider.
Parking is available in a small lot on N Evergreen Ave and in a lot by the historic Santa Fe depot on West Main Street. There is additional parking in a parking lot at 702 E Main St.
