The Metro Verde/Engler Multi Use Path is a wide, asphalt trail that runs along the side of Thurmond Road in the rapidly-growing Metro Verde development in northeastern Las Cruces. New homes, parks, and roads are being added in the area every year, and this trail helps to ensure that cyclists and pedestrians aren't left out of the equation. Beginning in the west, the trail starts at Atlas Road near the basketball courts and proceeds east along the road, offering stunning views of the mountain range due east of the city. As per usual in the arid landscape, there is not much shade to be found on the trail, but the route is flat and well-paved, taking trail users past suburban homes and a small, newly-built park before coming to an end at Sonoma Ranch Boulevard. While not necessarily a destination trail, the Metro Verder/Engler Multi Use Path is a great asset that hopefully will be of even greater use as the community grows.
No dedicated parking is available for this trail; be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations if using on-street parking. To reach the trail, take U.S. 70 east out of Las Cruces and head north on Sonoma Ranch Boulevard. Turn left onto Thurmond Road, and the trail will begin running on the north side of the road.
