Punta Gorda Harborwalk Description

For just over 2 miles, the Punta Gorda Harborwalk follows the beautiful Charlotte Harbor on Florida's west coast. The route is part of the city’s extensive trail network and connects directly to Linear Park, which follows a former railroad right-of-way.

On its western end, you can access the shops and restaurants of Fishermen’s Village and, on its eastern end, lies the Charlotte Regional Medical Center. Between these two points, Gilchrist Park and Laishley Park make for pleasant stops with restrooms, picnic tables, gardens, and fishing piers.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available on the west end of the trail in Fisherman’s Village (1200 West Retta Esplanade), as well as in Gilchrist Park (400 W. Retta Esplanade) and Laishley Park (100 Nesbit Street) further east.

Punta Gorda Harborwalk Reviews

I enjoyed this ride on a breezy summer morning. It has great variety and took about an hour to the end and back. The only problem is it is still under construction! It will be a 5 once it is complete!

We enjoyed riding down from Laishley park to Fisherman's Village. There was a section closed for improvements, and we detoured through downtown. Not bad, but it will be nicer when everything is open again along the water. There are also free bikes for borrowing along the trail, which is nice for those days we don't want to load up our own bikes.

Loved this trail. Excellent wide biking trail. Interesting route under bridges and beside the water. One section was closed due to construction of a sea wall but the detour was easy to follow. Going off the trail into the historic district was amazing too. Lovely old Florida homes with beautiful trees and flowers.

Accordion

Path relatively narrow. In season at this time of year one must focus on avoid many walkers and joggers, dog walkers, baby carriages and other bikers.

My wife and I are both retired and snow birds. This trail is part of an expansive paved trail system, which provides easy, safe, access to most points in Punta Gorda. There are even a few bike repair stations. Many shops and restaurants are accessible via the trail. The Charming city of Punta Gorda is a very bike friendly community. There is plenty of free parking along various parts of the trail system. The only con is there are few, if any bike racks at area businesses to which you can safely secure your bike while you are enjoying the many amenities the city has to offer: not even at the bike shop, which is located in a shopping center along the trail. All in all an excellent city trail.
