The River Edge Parkway winds its way along the Wisconsin River in the small city of Wausau. 3.92 miles of the trail follows the eastern shore of the river and along the Isle of Ferns Park and Barkers Island, and there are two short sections along the western shore that totals 1 mile.
Starting on Winton St. the trail follows the Wisconsin River south passing by Riverlife Park, which boasts a beautiful playground, ice cream stand and riverfront seating complete with Adirondack chairs, and Wausau Boat Dock. Halfway down the riverfront, there are additional trails the take a short loop around Barkers Island. The main parkway continues along the waterfront through downtown Wausau. A notable spot along the trail here is the Wausau Whitewater Park that serves as a practice ground for whitewater rafters, kayakers and canoers.
This eastern portion of the trail ends in Oak Park, with additional trails looping around the Isle of Ferns Park. One of the portions of the western shore of the trail passes Riverside Park and the second portion ends Scholfield Park.
