River Levee Trail Description

Augusta's River Levee Trail offers a paved 2-mile route along the the Savannah River, which divides Georgia from South Carolina, and is flanked by woodlands. Although the trail parallels the Riverwatch Parkway, it is comfortably seperated from the roadway by a wide, landscaped median.

Highlights of the pathway include the Civil-War-era Rea's Creek Aqueduct on the northern end of the trail and a pair of bridges, one of which is a 200-foot cable suspension bridge with spectacular views of the river and the downtown skyline.

For a longer journey, travelers can cross the Augusta Canal to reach the Augusta Canal Trail at the Lake Olmstead Trailhead.

Parking and Trail Access

On the north end of the trail, parking and restrooms are available at the Lake Olmstead Trailhead (1 Milledge Road, Augusta). To access the River Levee Trail from the trailhead, cross the bridge over the Augusta Canal.

Augusta Canal to River Levee to North Augusta Greeneway

The Levee trail can be added to the Augusta Canal trail starting at Savannah Rapids Park. it will be a multi-surface trail running mostly between the Savannah River and the Augusta Canal. The Levee trail will take you all the way to town and a short trail to the 13th street bridge. You can ride over the bridge and access the North Augusta Greeneway and river park. Jump off the trail at Hammonds Ferry and eat at one of their restaurants.

Great trail for cycling

This trail was an easy ride with a great view. Rest and water stops were also along the way.

Great area to talk a walk with the family! Parking is not too hard to find being downtown and all.
