Print Friendly MapThe Sheboygan Interurban Trail follows the route of an electric railway that once ran between Milwaukee and Sheboygan from the early 1900s to 1951. The trail begins at Pebble Beach Road on the Ozaukee County/Sheboygan County Line and travels north to the City of Sheboygan.
The trail’s first 5.5 miles, through Cedar Grove and Oostburg, are off-road, while the remainder of the route is along low-volume roads. The off-road portion also runs adjacent to an active railroad.
A highlight of the journey is Kohler-Andrae State Park, located between Oostburg and Sheboygan. Resting on the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan, the park offers a sandy beach, nature center, hiking trails, and camping facilities. Farther north, the trail ends at the doorstep to Sheboygan's Lakeview Park, which also provides beach access.
On its southern end, the trail seamlessly connects to the Ozaukee Interurban Trail, which continues another 30 miles to Milwaukee.
On the north end of the trail, parking is available in Kohler-Andrae State Park (1020 Beach Park Lane, Sheboygan).
Mid-trail, a trailhead with parking is available on the comer of S. 10th Street and Center Avenue in downtown Oostburg.
Picked up trail on Hwy K in Cedar Grove and took it to Kohler-Andre Park. Trails are nicely maintained, restrooms along the way. At Oostburg you are on country road the remainder of the way. Little to no traffic. Also, not very scenic. Kohler-Andre is great.
This trail is very scenic as we biked north from the Ozaukee trail. We immediately could tell the difference as this trail had a more wooded or nature feel. We stopped and turned back at the trail’s end just short of Oostburg rather than following the quiet roads the short distance into the village. We wish the trail continued further into Sheboygan County without the reliance on county highways. It’s a great start!
We rode from Belgium to Oostburg. I didn't realize that the Sheboygan Interurban was all paved. Even though I read the trail description I was still expecting gravel when we crossed Hwy. K. The trail seems well maintained and is in good condition. This section of the trail from Hwy K to Oostburg is mostly rural and follows a railroad track. A really beautiful ride. It has a suburban feel when you go through Cedar Grove. There is one road you have to take through an industrial section of Cedar Grove. On the north side of Cedar Grove at Hwy 32 & Commerce St. is a nice trail head with tables and shade and that also has a clean porta-pottie.
When you reach Oostburg the dedicated trail ends and you ride the streets. The first road north through Oostburg is a quiet residential street and it takes you to the trail head at the Oostburg train depot. There are really clean bathrooms inside and tables too. No tables outside but across the tracks to the west is Kups Coffee and Ice Cream. This is where we turned to head back to Belgium.
Started from Kohler-Andrae SP. Not a fan of on road biking, but nice quiet roads. Nice little coffee ice cream shop “Kups” in Oostburg. Next door at the Oostburg red building are public restrooms. Paved bike trail from Oostburg south.
I wrote the entire length of the Sheboygan Interurban Trail . In general, it was an excellent trail to ride. However, As the previous person who posted earlier, the trail is about 50% on the road. That was disappointing. The road was good to ride and not full of potholes.
There is a beautiful off-road experience waiting for you near the north end of the trail between Terry Andrae Road and Stahl Road. Park the bike or car there in the pulloff and enjoy a meadow and woodland experience. Almost all trails eventually loop back to within 100 yards of the start. You will see the Black River Forest and some of the plants and animals that call it home. It is occasionally used as a horse trail, so watch your step. I will attach photos.
Picked up the trail from Oostburg to Kohler Andre. From the pictures posted I was not expecting strictly roads running through farm country but trails that resembled the Ozaukee interurban trail. This trail was a lot more challenging than the typical rails to trails I'm used to.
Joining the trail in Oostburg, we biked due south for 10 miles thru farm country and a few swampy areas. Met a significant number of friendly riders biking at varying skill levels on a hot and humid day. Lack of restrooms anywhere along this stretch of of the trail was disappointing especially for women. I wish there would have been more scenic views but the ride was a good workout. One time would be enough!
